UNPROFOR Bug (Travel Bug)

This is the website & log for the UNPROFOR Bug. This Travel Bug is placed in memory to my active duty during the UNPROFOR mission in Bosnia 1995. This bug should travel back to the area where I've served the Dutch army during the mission in Bosnia.

The mission of the Bug
The Bug is attached to a original United Nations peace keeping barrette emblem. This one i used during my peacekeeping mission in the war Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Yugoslav wars from January to July 1995. I was Deployed in Simin Han. The bug should travel back to the area where I've served the UNPROFOR mission as a reminder to the people for who we rebuilt their bridges and schools. The Bug is free to travel around the earth after the Bug has finished the main goal of this mission.

UNPROFOR
In May 1993, intense fighting broke out in Central Bosnia between Bosniaks and Bosnian Croats. Croat para-military forces, whose tie to the authorities was unclear, committed exactions against Serbs and Bosniaks. The United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR), was the first UN peacekeeping force in Croatia and in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Yugoslav wars. It existed between the beginning of UN involvement in February 1992, and its restructuring into other forces in March 1995. The UNPROFOR was composed of nearly 39,000 personnel, 320 of whom were killed on duty. The initial mandate of the UNPROFOR was to ensure conditions for peace talks, and security in three demilitarised "safe-haven" enclaves designated as United Nations Protected Areas (UNPAs) located in the former Yugoslav republic of Croatia: Eastern Slavonia, Western Slavonia and Krajina. They were places with strong Serb populations that had organised into the self-styled Republic of Serbian Krajina, which had led to tensions and fighting.
